Ever been in the need to do a kick ass briefing on your project or get your manager to decide on something? I compiled a checklist for myself and my team. Obviously you can leave out things that do not fit in your space but overall try to stick to it.

Informational Briefing on Project/Product

  1. Welcome / Intro
    1. Introduce yourself (Name and function if unknown)
    2. Greet audience, make sure persons unknown to each other get introduced, mention the role of each participants within the upcoming meeting
    3. Mention timeline (“In the following 20 min, I want…”)
  2. Mission/Program
    1. Repeat the task assigned to you using the original words
    2. Present overall mission on your own words to frame discussion
    3. Signals/KPIs/Check questions to check mission is fulfilled
  3. Your role within mission/project within program/product
    1. Your task within mission/program
    2. Involved own resources
  4. Involved other Parties
    1. Parties providing input to work on
    2. Parties receiving output of work
    3. Parties involved in delivery of work
    4. Parties involved in oversight and controlling
  5. Current status on Overall Mission/Program
    1. Mission state in percentage of completion
    2. Closed elements with emphasis on recently closed
    3. Next elements to work on
    4. Issues, Risks and Mitigations
  6. Current status on Own resources
    1. Status of resources, budget
    2. Plan of immediate next steps and confidence
    3. Upcoming changes (team, process, …)
    4. Ended experiments and learnings
    5. Currently running experiments

Decision Briefing on Project/Product
